Critique of Project #1:

save your work as a QT movie in H.264 codec to link on your page

Due: 10/2 Create a 30 sec. (minimum) to one minute (max) composition in which you consider the power of association among images which are seemingly unrelated. These may be images of your own making (drawn, photographed) or ones which you use from some other source. If not your own, your source(s) must be cited, and you must have the rights to the image. (IE, either purchase the rights, find copyright-free or limited rights images, or images from the public domain). Consider carefully how you use the screen. Find ways to use portions of the screen meaningfully – try to use some subset of the screen for at least part of the 30 (or more) seconds.

refer to critique guidelines: [[1]]

don't forget to post and link to (in addition to your movie):

  • your storyboard
  • your treatment

Introduction to Project #2

Soundscape for an image. This will be a multi-part assignment extending over several weeks and requiring several steps.

For next week (10/9):

Choose an image (one of your own making or re-composition) to which you will build a soundscape. The image should be rich enough to sustain several different interpretations, and to plausibly have many sound sources associated with it.

Mid Term Practical (take home)

“Create Change” logo animation due 10/9 in class

create a 10-15 second animation which embodies the notion of change using the color and disc guidelines from the CCC website: [[2]]

Keep in mind the following self-descriptions from the style document: Columbia is (and the disc logo shows this) "pluralistic and democratic. youthful, vibrant, and exuberant creative, bold, experimental. vibrant, colorful. original, noisy, unexpected. fearless and practical. joyful and playful."

As a resource, see color swatches in TBC/classfolders/pub/day5 (colorCCCid.tiff)

You can change the disc/logo to the extent that the shape becomes a full circle, the color changes, and/or the entire shape scales, rotates, or changes shape in some other way. You can integrate other images at your discretion.
