1 Monday- January 23rd Introduction and class policies What is Digital Media Tech Practicum? Look at last year’s Manifest site Setting your goals. Finding your dream career Writing Center requirements Pass out manifest job descriptions Take a questionnaire. Assignment: You will need to decide whether you would like to apply for a job, graduate school or a gallery exhibition for your final project. Due in two weeks Assignment: Organize all of you artwork to bring to class and present. Due next week.

2 Monday- January 30th Look at classmates’ artwork. Discussion: organizing your portfolio, weeding it out. Announce Manifest positions. Introduce idea generation for Manifest Exhibition Assignment: You will put together your portfolio in PDF form. Start by gathering up your best work. You will be required to have a printed out book (high resolution) and a digital (low resolution) version. Due in two weeks.

3 Monday- February 6th Continue looking at classmates’ artwork. Brainstorm ideas for gallery Assignment: Continue working on PDF portfolio. Due next week. Web Designer Assignment: Start Flash Flyer. Make three mock-ups. Due in one week. Print Designer Assignment: Start Poster and Postcard Designs. Make three mock-ups. Due in one week.

4 Monday- February 13th Look at PDF’s in class. Look at Flash Flyer and Poster/postcard designs Discussion: Resumes Guest Speaker: Writing Center Assignment: Put together your resume. Make an appointment with the Writing Center and have them sign off on it before handing it in. Due next week. Web Designer Assignment: Using class feedback, finalize Flash Flyer. Make three mock-ups. Due in two weeks. Print Designer Assignment: Using class feedback, finalize Poster and Postcard Designs. Make three mock-ups. Due in two weeks.

5 Monday- February 20th Hand in Resumes. Discussion: Writing an Artist’s Statement

Assignment: Write your artist statement. Statement must be a minimum of three paragraphs and a maximum of one page. Make an appointment with the Writing Center and have them sign off on it before you hand it in.

6 Monday- February 27th Hand in Artist’s Statement Discussion: Cover Letters and Portfolio Books Web Designer: Present Flash Flyer Print Designer: Present poster and postcard designs Assignment: Write a cover letter, specific to the job, gallery, or school you are applying to. Purchase a professional portfolio, print out your High Res. Portfolio and arrange properly. Due next week.

7 Monday- March 6th Hand in Cover letters and portfolios. They will be returned by Wednesday so that you can make the necessary revisions in time for the midterm.

8 Monday- March 13th MIDTERM: Resubmit revised copies of Artist statement, cover letter, resume and portfolio for your midterm grade.

Monday- March 20th NO CLASS- SPRING BREAK

9 Monday- March 27th Look at examples of great online portfolio sites. Discuss different approaches to portfolio websites Discuss Manifest Assignment: Using Photoshop and/or Illustrator make 3 portfolio mock-ups. Due next week.

10 Monday- April 3rd Turn in mock-ups. Discussion: Setting up a domain Manifest work Assignment: Start building out your portfolio site. First draft is due in two weeks, final draft due on last day of class.

11 Monday-April 10th Continue working on websites Manifest work

12 Monday- April 17th Mini critique of first draft portfolio websites Discussion: Planning for interviews, interview techniques Manifest work

13 Monday- April 24th Interviews- conducted in class with industry professionals

14 Monday- May 1st Interviews- conducted in class with industry professionals

15 Monday- May 8th Final websites due Last day of class
