Basic Usage

This section will cover the basic usage of the Nikon D200.

Step 1

Back view of the D200

Remove the lens cap and turn on the camera. Check the "battery level" and the "exposure count" displays on the control panel located on the top and right side of the camera.

Step 2

Locate the "mode dial" on the top and left side of the camera. If the mode is not already set to "S" (single frame), press and hold the "mode dial lock release" and turn the dial.

Step 3

Top view of the D200

Set the "focus-area mode selector" to "single-area Auto-Focus" (the bottom setting; looks like small square brackets inside larger square brackets).

Step 4

Set the "focus mode selector" to "S" (single-servo auto-focus). This tells the camera to auto-focus when the shutter-release is pressed halfway, and will not allow pictures to be taken when the camera is not focused.

Step 5

Front Angle view of the D200

Set the "metering selector" to the middle option (matrix metering; looks like a circle in the center of a rectangle).

Step 6

Press the shutter-release halfway down to focus. Once focused, press the shutter-release the rest of the way down to take the photograph.

Removing the Memory Card

Step 1

Step 1

Flip the CARD SLOT COVER LATCH upwards and the card cover will flip open.

Step 2

Step 2

Push the gray button inwards to pop out the memory card.

Step 3

Step 3

Pull out the compact flash card.
