Reservation Process:

  • Reservations can be made in person or via phone call
  • Reservations can be made up to 2 weeks in advance. We encourage reserving as early as possible.
  • Walk-in check-outs are allowed, but do not guarantee equipment availability
  • Reservations can be made Monday – Thursday, Fridays are walk-ins only
  • Back-to-back reservations are possible using two different Oasis IDs from group members, this allows for a double checkout period. However, should it be late or damaged, BOTH parties will be held responsible.

Checkout Periods:

  • Checkout periods are generally 48 business hours, from the reservation time or time of checkout
  • For example, equipment reserved for 2pm on a Monday will be due back BEFORE 2pm Wednesday.
  • Orders picked up Thursdays and Fridays will be due back Monday.
  • The return time listed is the absolute LATEST the items can be returned.
  • You will receive an e-mail with all the items on your order and the due time after checkout.

Late Pickups/Returns:

  • There is a one hour grace period after your set reservation time to pick up the gear, after that the order is automatically cancelled in the system and becomes available. If you know you will be late for a pickup, please call us to move your reservation time.
  • If a return is late, even a minute, it is automatically marked late in the system. We will assess a $25 late for late equipment, and an additional $25 day for every additional day it is late.
  • If you know you will be late with the equipment, please call us as soon as possible.

Important Reminders:

  • Once equipment is checked out under your name, you are considered responsible for anything damaged or missing and may be charged a replacement/repair fee at the department’s discretion
  • Make absolutely sure the equipment is present, in good condition and functioning BEFORE you take it out of the building.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask about what should be included in the kit or how to operate and care for the equipment.
  • In the event equipment goes missing, please call us immediately. In the event of stolen equipment, obtain a police report and then contact the equipment center.

Other Things to Remember:

  • Do not leave equipment unattended. Have someone watch any unsecured equipment.
  • Do not leave equipment in hot cars or extreme weather conditions.
  • Beach sand can easily damage equipment. Please consult facility staff before shooting on the beach, as special measures need to be taken.

MEDIA

  • Raw film stock is logged out by you and only you with your ID in the Film Cage.
  • The film department does not sell film or SD-Cards to students directly.
  • Be sure to get a film processing sticker when you pick up your raw film. Without it we will not process your film. If you have a short end, bring in the unused portion when you come in to log your film for processing at that time we will give you a processing sticker for the unused portion.
  • Students requiring special processing or printing should check with Cage managers before turning their film in. An additional charge may be required for special processing needs.
  • Film is sent to/returned from the lab Tuesday & Thursday
    • Outgoing film must be turned in by 11:00AM.
    • Incoming film should be available by 5:00PM.
  • We transfer film to video in-house for classes finishing digitally. Film classes will drop their film off in the Film Cage for processing and then pick up the files on the 6th floor Post Production Center, Rm. 602.
  • Students needing to transfer to video for projects outside of class will have to do so independently. Columbia will not be responsible for transferring non-class related projects.
