The HD-P2 has two power sources.  It has an ac adapter as well as, takes batteries. If you are going to use the AC adapter it is advisable to remove the batteries.  IF the batteries contain a net charge higher than what the AC adapter is using the HD-P2 will use the batteries as it's main power source which will cause invisible power use (The HD-P2 has invisible power source switching so there is no indicator as to what the power source it is using at any given time).
