The Intuos4 is the largest of our department’s tablets, allowing the most space for users to draw freehand rather than using a mouse or trackpad.

What's in the kit?

Pen

While the tablet is plugged in, the pen acts as a secondary mouse, the button near the tip that rocks back and forth allows for left (towards the “eraser” end) and right (towards the tip) clicks. Either tip will let you move the mouse pointer. The drawing area on the tablet represents the computer screen. When the pen tip is placed on the tablet, the mouse pointer will move to the same position on the screen rather than relative to its current position.

Troubleshooting

If the LCD screens do not light up when the device is plugged in, you may need to install the driver for the device from the Wacom site, see External links. Select the tablet model (Intuos4) under Step 1 and the operating system for Step 2. If you are in the lab, the operating system is Windows7 or Mac OS X. Installing the driver requires administrative permission, so if you are in the lab you will have to ask a tutor or lab aide for help.
