Editing your hosts file

The host file is a file that many OS use to resolve Ip addresses to Names. It has mostly been replaced by DNS. The host file is still consulted before a DNS server on many OSs. The host file can still be edited by hand to assist with name resolution. You may want to add some of the school servers to your hosts file. So as your fingers are not worn down to little nubs by too much typing.

Add the following lines to your hosts file to refer to servers by name rather than by IP.
