IAM VPN is only for staff and faculty

Open Control Panel form Start Menu Select Network andSharing Center

On the right select 'Set up a connection or network'

Select 'Use my INternet connection (VPN)'

Type Internet address and Destination Name

Type User name password and domain

Now you are ready to connect select connect to a network on the tasks secrion os Network and Sharing Center

Connect to the VPN connection we just made

Open Control Panel and double click Network Connections

Click File and pull down to New Connection

Click Next

Select Connect to the network at my workplace

Select Virtual Private Network connection

Give it a name. I like 'IAM' as a name for this connection, but call it whatever you want.

enter the server address, 206.69.161.141

You probably want to select My Use Only, unless your computer has other users that you want to grant access to this connection.

Click Finish and it'll bring up the prompt for your user name and password. You may need to add the domain 'iam\' before your username to connect properly. You have the option of saving your username and password. To connect in the future, going to control panel>network connections, will show the connection name you picked in step 6. Double clicking the name will connect you to the VPN.

If you only follow the last 9 steps, you won't be able to access the internet once you've connected to the VPN. To fix that, click the properties button on the username / password prompt.

Then click the networking tab, make sure Internet Protocal (TCP/IP) is selected, and click the properties button

Click the Advanced button

unselect the checkbox for Use default gateway on remote network

Then click OK a whole bunch of times and you'll be good to go.

Mac OS X 10.5

Go to the Apple menu and select "System Preferences". Click on the Network settings.

Click on the plus sign at the bottom left of the window and select the following,

Interface - VPN

VPN Type - PPTP

Service Name - VPN - (PPTP)

Click "Create".

1. Click on "VPN (PPTP)" in the left column.

2. Under "Configuration", click on the pop-up window and select "Add Configuration...". Type in "iam dept."

Type the Server Address - 69.38.205.35

Type the account name, the login name you use to authenticate to the IAM servers.

Set the Encryption to "Maximum (128 bit only)".

3. Check this box for ease of use on future VPN connections.

4. Click the "Apply" button to save your changes. Close the Network settings window.

Select the VPN menu item at the top of the Desktop. Highlight "Connect VPN (PPTP)".

Enter your password, click ok.

You know you're connected to the IAM network when the VPN menu bar has a timer next to it..
