Project 3: Creative portfolio
Introduced Week 10

XHTML + CSS

Using Project 2 materials as a starting point, students will either use their portfolio or collection (or both) and redesign their site using a "bottom-up" approach (which should echo topics such as bottom-up planning and card-sorting in IA, box-properties in CSS, XML). Students should analyze their materials and understand their inherent logic (class discussions will be needed to assist here), and how to make a Web-based experience that best utilizes these materials, above and beyond simply making them accessible and presentable. Refer to assignments 8 and 9, in which students will be using the Web as an expressive media, as well as the Pause and Effect readings. Ultimately, students should be able to talk about their decision-making process in content analysis, the site structure (linear or nonlinear or both), and their strategies for both self-expression and user experience.

How this assignment will be completed does not need to be figured out at the portfolio stage (Project 2). The purpose of the portfolio + mockup + presentations/discussions is to make use of the group situation to understand what potentials are locked within each student's content, and what sort of interesting experiece can be cultivated with them.
