The Interactive Arts and Media Department (IAM) is sending two students to SXSW Interactive in Austin, TX. Kevin Bolander (’13) and Alice Werley (’13) will tweet and blog about their experiences from March 8-12. Both students were selected based on their portfolios, academic records, and strategies for reporting back to IAM using interactive media during the festival. This is the second consecutive year IAM has sent students from the Interactive Arts and Media major. With the launch of new degree programs, including a Mobile Media Programming major, IAM is at the forefront of emerging technologies and SXSW Interactive is a perfect opportunity to meet industry leaders, thinkers, developers and designers.
Also, IAM faculty Patrick Lichty will be speaking on the panel, “Art, Activism, and Augmented Reality” with Jon Lebkowsky, CEO of Polycot Associates, on Sunday, March 10. Patrick and Jon will discuss “potentials and limitations of [augmented reality], the history and context of work being done today, and the tactical potentials of AR as political intervention.” More info here.
